1. Collecting seeds ready for next year
Before old plants get too wet and start to rot, collect any seeds you'd like to keep for new year's sowing. Wait for the seeds or seed pods to go dry before snipping them off and keep them in a labelled envelope in a cool, dry place.
2. Planting Spring flowering bulbs
Spring flowers are planted in autumn so if you want a beautiful display come February onwards, get planting! Tulips, daffodils, anemone and crocus are just a few popular flowers you can add to your spring displays whether that's in borders or pots.
3. Filling up your compost bin
What's better than planting your spring crops with compost that you've made? Starting your compost bin in autumn means you could have lovely fresh compost ready for spring. Adding fallen leaves to your bin is a great source of carbon and luckily there are plenty around throughout autumn!

5. Installing a water butt
In Autumn, with the increased rainfall it’s the perfect time to install a water butt. Saving rainwater is a great way of being a little more environmentally friendly - and it can save you money! A full water butt is very handy come Spring.
